The Lazy A Ranch, Texas

Organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers are grown in raised beds along with grain and greens for the poultry. The beds have greenhouse tenting for year round production and drip irrigation. Fruit trees and bushes are also being developed. Bees are kept for pollination, honey is bottled raw, and beeswax produces candles, soap, and other products. Hummingbird and butterfly gardens provide special necessary plants. Instead of pesticides, organic oils and predator flies are used for insect control. Organic fertilizers and compost teas are used. For 2013 the following have been planted for poultry: Rox Orange Sorghum, Dundee Pea, Golden Flax, White Proso Millet, Montezuma Oat, and Kale. Fruit trees include avocado, banana, six varieties of grape, kiwi, blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, apple, pear, apricot, fig, plum, nectarine, loquat, orange, lemon, and pomegranate. Raised beds have Beefsteak Tomato, Black Beauty Eggplant, Dark Green Italian Parsley, Cilantro Santo, Cress, Fennel, Italian Large Leaf Basil, Dill, Evergreeen White Bunching Onion, Mint, Poblano Hot Pepper, Jalapeno Pepper, Catnip, Dark Green Zucchini Squash, Golden Summer Crookneck Squash, Bush Beans, Emerald Okra, Kentucky Wonder Beans, and Mary Washington Asparagus. Flower beds have been planted with True Lavendar and Sky Scraper Sunflower. Row plantings include Homemade Pickles Cucumber, Globe Artichoke, Hale’s Best Jumbo Melon, Hearts of Gold Melon, Sugar Baby Watermelon, Improved Golden Bantam Corn, and Trucker Favorite Yellow Corn. Vegetables will be delivered into Houston. Some pickles, preserves, and or canning products will be prepared. Others will be preserved by dehydration.
